Company: | This is a family business with farming roots going back several generations. This tradition is still going strong and has diversified into cooked beetroot, salads and vegetables for the retail and food services industry. |
Issue: | In the production of beetroot the product is washed and dipped into acetic acid. The waste from this process tends to be acidic and as such did not meet the Disposal Licence from the water authority. |
Resolution: | The waste was collected into a storage tank and a WMEC pH plant took this waste and whilst in the storage tank dosed to correct the pH and pumped to drain. The plant treated up to 5,000 litres per hour. |
Impact: | Water Authority requirements met. |
